Did Jesus really go to hell after the cross? If yes then why did he say to the thief Luke 23:43 And Jesus replied, "I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise."

To be short, yes. I think there is even a video where Doug talks about the time where God told him how Jesus got OUT of hell. I link it if I find the video. For second question, I'm gonna go off the books a little bit. It might sound a little crazy but bear with me. I watched this testimony of a brother in Uganda who died and was taken to heaven. In the testimony he talked entire experience: how he physically got there and what it was like. Its some interesting stuff, his testimony also lines up with alot of things Doug has mentioned before: flowers talking, angels referring to you specifically as "son of man", a rich welcome ECT. Anyway, in this testimony, this man mentions having met the "thief on the cross" who he learned was actually an angel. Wait Really? An angel? Apparently he's a trumpet blower in paradise. It would make sense: Jesus said "Truly I say to you today you will be with me in paradise." Thats not a lie. The minute that angel "died" he went straight to heaven and immediately got into position to blow the trumpet. And it's certainly not outside the realm of possibility at all. First of all there's no time in eternity so we can't possibly know what "today" means. Jesus might have already been out of hell in that time frame. Also Doug mentions having met people on several occasions who were actually angels. Of course you don't have to believe it; take it to God if you want. I think the best answer to a lot of mysteries in the bible is "I dont know" because we are usually wrong. Watch Doug's video on Gideon: he explains the real reason why God commands Gideon to take his men to get a drink. It actually really scary. Anyway I hope this helps. Ill try and link the videos below. Edit: Here's the video about Gideon: youtu.be/oZMXu9A5lLU. It might take me a while to find the other two, sit tight. Edit 2: Ok I'm really upset now. This video I mentioned is ridiculously hard to find. I'll keep an eye out but I don't know I'll be able to find it, which is a shame because its such a powerful testimony. As for the Doug's Video if I can find it Ill post it. If anyone know which video Im talking about feel free to post it.

“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.” (1 Peter 3:18-20)
What do you guys think of this scripture? Does it mean actual spirits imprisoned in Sheol (or something) or could it mean actual people in prison?

The video on how Jesus got of hell is probably not on YouTube I remember finding it on the fotm website. I don’t understand how the thief on the cross could be an angel because Matthew 27:44 And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way Mark 15:32 Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross that we may see and believe.” Those who were crucified with him also reviled him. These scriptures seem to indicate that both thieves insulted him. If one of those thieves was an angel how could an angel sin and insult Jesus?

He didn't insult Jesus, in Luke 23:40 he rebukes the other thief for telling Jesus to save himself and them. Then he says Jesus did nothing wrong then he asks jesus to remember him.

Ephesians 4:9 talks about Jesus descending into the lower parts of the earth. Which could mean hell or the grave, even though i don't think He was buried underground.

The scripture I referenced clearly show the action done by plural thieves. Perhaps he first reviled him then repented. I don’t know if it was just one thief then why would the scriptures I referenced use plural terms. Matthew 27:44 And the (robbers) who (were) crucified with him also reviled him in the same way Mark 15:32 Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross that we may see and believe.” Those who (were) crucified with him also reviled him. I put the plural words in the parentheses.

christopher, I know just the video you’re talking about. It really stood out to me too, but it’s only on the website (in FLV form so you probably can’t watch it on mobile). Here it is: fellowshipofthemartyrs.com/audio-and-video/41-bible-study/344-how-did-jesus-get-out-of-hellIn regards to the thieves on the cross and whether or not both reviled Him, just remember that the Gospels were written by men and they were eyewitness accounts. Eyewitnesses’ stories don’t usually match up perfectly in real life. Even in the Bible there are small differences here and there throughout all of them when accounting for the same event or something that Jesus said.

Still could the thief on that cross really be an angel?

Still could the thief on that cross really be an angel? Didn't Jesus forgive him of his sins before he died?

Yeah angel couldn’t sin so Christopher I don’t know if the thief being an angel make sense. I’m not saying your definitely wrong but it dosent seem to line up with my scripture interpretation.

As for the thief on the cross being an angel, I really have no idea. Scripture tells us the events, but it doesn’t really tell us the intricacies and the reasons behind things. The Holy Spriit guides us for that.
Even for Jesus going to Hell, and being dead for a few days, it doesn’t tell us what went on. The Bible is not the end-all-be-all, it serves as a purpose to lead us to Jesus and He will guide us in our life. That’s why it’s important to hear His voice and to always go to God with everything and He will show you.

Art Katz does a good job of expounding the agony that Jesus went through, and the extent how Jesus gave up His deity and was fully reliant on the Father. What God has spoken through Katz has given me really good insight on how amazing Jesus is. He was a true prophet of God. I could link some sermons if you would like, but I think God Himself could show you all of these things as well. Anyway, check with Him
