In Proverbs 6:16-19 there is a list of seven things that are an abomination to the LORD.
"There are six things that the LORD hates,
seven that are an abomination to him:
haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
and hands that shed innocent blood,
a heart that devises wicked plans,
feet that make haste to run to evil,
a false witness who breathes out lies,
and one who sows discord among brothers."
Has anyone noticed that the body parts mentioned in the list seem to correspond to the wounds Jesus received during the crucifixion? The hands and the feet are the most obvious. Some of the rest aren't so direct, but I think it fits. The forehead is close to the eyes, so the crown of thorns corresponds to the "haughty eyes" mentioned in the passage. As for the "lying tongue," Scripture never directly says that Jesus was struck on the mouth, but it seems pretty likely. Matthew 26:67 - "Then they spit in His face and struck Him. And some slapped Him." Also, Psalm 22:15b says "my tongue sticks to my jaws." Concerning "a heart that devises wicked plans," Psalm 22:14 has "my heart is like wax; it is melted within my breast." Additionally, some think that when the spear pierced His side, it went through His lung and into His heart. If that is the case, then this relates to both the "heart" and the "false witness who breathes out lies." And finally - and this came to me right before writing this - the cause of death during crucifixion is typically thought to be asphyxiation. This again would pertain to the "false witness who breathes out lies."
Since Jesus took our sins upon Him, it makes sense that those things the Father particularly hates would show up in the way Jesus was wounded. Indeed, He was pierced for our transgressions and by His wounds we are healed.
