Why did men, even great men of Faith have a wife along with a concubine or concubines?
1) Abraham (Genesis 16:1-4) 2) Abraham's brother Nahor (Genesis 22:23-24) 3) David 4) Solomon

Kind of like how Adam and Eve's kids basically committed incest to populate the earth.

It is a really interesting question to think about. I don't think it was necessary but I wonder why God did not "correct" that when other parts of the bible are very clear that marriage is to be between one man and one women and sex is only between those who are married. I heard a story from my dad once about a missionary that went to a distant village in Africa that still practiced polygamy. Well, the whole village had become born again and the leader of the tribe had two wives. So, he asked the missionary on what he should do about his triangle marriage situation because the bible says one man and one woman. They both decided to pray about it and what the felt the Lord leading them to do was to outlaw polygamy from the tribe but the leader kept both his wives. The reason that they did that was because if the leader picked one wife then the other wife would be destitute and wouldn't be able to support herself or her children. I just think that sometimes these issues are not black and white. Sin is sin and it has consequences. Thanks to Jesus we don't have eternal consequences for that but we do (unfortunately) have earthly onse. Just something to chew on.

One side comment about this...
In the days of Abraham, it was a cultural habit of the nations of those days for a rich man to have two wives. One was to be beautiful, and the man would spill his seed on the ground, to avoid making her pregnant, so she wouldn't lose her beauty. The other was not married for looks, but to bear children, and was not the loved wife.
Lot of really messed up things humans have thought in history.

That sounds like a really, really messed up way of having a relationship with someone.
