Hmmm i would say... Doug talk a lot how a lot things in the bible are if... Then... Statements. So maybe make sure the we suit the ifs and then we can claim it? Not sure tho..

The difference between 'blab it and grab it' and 'standing on promises' can be a razor's edge in some cases and the grand canyon in others.
For something to be 'name it and claim it' in today's Christian vernacular we're generally looking for a depiction of God that has a paramount care for people's material life in this tinderbox gasoline soaked world as opposed to The One True God that cares most for your Spiritual well being and life in eternity.
It's not uncommon for people in the 'WORD OF FAITH' movement to take scriptures out of context and force it to mean something it never did.
Here's my favorite example of a razor's edge:
Psalm 37:4
"Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart."
This verse means MORE THAN one thing.
It first means that if you delight yourself in the Lord... Knowing him, learning his heart, seeking him, that the desires of YOUR HEART will be given anew; that is you'll have new desires for Holy Things.
However if someone had a superficial and self interested (spiritually autistic) or carnal approach to the Bible they would probably only see that if you love Jesus he will give you a new X-box and those nikes you've had your eyes on, and all your enemies would kiss your behind on main street in front of everyone.
If I were a 'name it and claim it' preacher this would be the focus for this verse. Essentially it's humanism in the name of God. It doesn't get more misguided than that. Your best life Now!
When the Holy Spirit is your teacher, the verse means God is going to ignite holy passions in you and then fulfill them through the gifts and provision he makes for you to bring about the greatest advancement of his Kingdom and eternal reward when he shouts your praises as you enter into life.
Hope that clears it up a bit.

I would say make sure what your asking for lines up with the the promises in the Word. Usually if it fits in with needs and characteristics and testimony.

The difference is the source and motivation. If you are generating these types of claims for personal advancement, lust, benefit, glory, pride(false humility) whatever...this is soulish and fleshly. If God plants a seed in your heart from His word, it is for His purposes, plans and you joining in His plans will greatly benefit you. Usually there is a time of testing of God's word in your life to see if you will really stand on the promise. This helps kill the flesh and keep down the pride when the glorious results take place. You will not be saying.."this was of my own doing or by my faith" no you will have been humbled and graciously acknowledge what God did. The disciples said in Lk 17:10 "We are unprofitable servants we have done only what was our duty to do."

So we work together with God, but God gets the credit because he's providing the means/results. Like how Jesus said where is your faith and Luke 8:18 " I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?" "

Remember you also have to believe and not doubt. Faith is complete trust or confidence or belief.

Sure we need faith...just faith in who and faith for what. Prosperity? If you make $2500 or more per year you make more than one half of the world's population! Word of Faith preachers by "faith" claiming jets, BMWs, bigger buildings, more TV stations etc. While Christian widows in 3rd world are praying for God to supply their next meal. So faith comes by hearing from God. Ask Him. He gives seed to the sower and bread to the eater. He will speak and give you seed faith to do what He asks you to do. It will be impossible for you to do, but He will see it thru. Just put one foot ahead of another and start out. Your faith will be demonstrated (worked out) by action, not just mental assent. See Hebrews chap 11. Hope this clarifies my previous post.

Does what we think & say influence our prayers and circumstances? Since the bible says our tongues have the power of life and death.

If whatever you say is not the truth or is bad about people or yourself then it's sowing bad seeds and you will reap what you sow. Im pretty sure any evil word spoken against someone is a form of witchcraft, but not sure. If you are saying something, but are thinking the opposite then it's probably double mindedness or lying.

Don't forget while praying at a situation and have a thought that is against it. That thought is just as if you prayed for that instead even if you have Gods word and promise against it.

This is what the Lord has shown me so far about this. What we speak with her mouth brands our inside. If we speakcondemnation guilt unbelief, then we give permission for the powers of hell to brand our inside. If we speak The word of God, and continue to cast down every thought that exalts itself above the word of God, Then God will build in us true faith and our confidence and assurance will be in God alone. But this only applies to the word of God. God tells us in Psalms 103 that He forgives all our sins and heals ALL our diseases. So many Christians "claim" that verse when they need it, but God only moves by faith. They have not spent time meditating and believing the word of God. They have not cast down spirits of unbelief and allowed God to build in them TRUE FAITH. Faith is the SUBSTANCE of things hoped for. Many times Jesus rebuked the disciples many times. These were men who literally gave all in the natural, but still Gods work in them had not been perfected. That work ONLY comes from CONTINUALLY BELIEVING the Word of God. That includes His Promise to set us free from all sin, sickness and disease, as well as any promises He has made to you personally. BELIEVE THE WORD OF GOD. You have been se free from all sin at the Cross. Read Romans 6:1-6 and believe the Gospel.

^^^^^ What I meant to say above is Jesus rebuked His disciples many times for their unbelief.
