How does the 1 John 4:2 test apply with different translations? Some say acknowledge, some say confess? In the greek "homologeó" means this: biblehub.com/greek/3670.htmDefinition: to speak the same, to agree Usage: (a) I promise, agree, (b) I confess, (c) I publicly declare, (d) a Hebraism, I praise, celebrate. Different translations: biblehub.com/1_john/4-2.htmConfession is a form of acknowledgement. That’s why it’s similar definition. You can acknowledge without confessing.

They don't acknowledge it, generally. Why don't you ask these questions in a private message, since they are unrelated to the thread? I don’t ask in private because you brought it up and so others can see.

How can the letter to Jude speak of the twice dead, unless it's possible for the flesh to come roaring back up to life, and war against the Spirit, and cause a believer to sin? Twice dead doesn’t mean dead again it means you’re dead two times over. They grow but are dead producing dead fruit and then die being plucked up. Dead inside and outside. How can a born again choose to sin if they are a new creation? If they sinned then they were not fully born again.

"you won’t answer my questions" waris, question: "What did you mean by wanting the Lord to come to them?" James, answer: "I feel like this conversation has gone to exorbitant lengths now, but I will answer you, again. I meant, Lord Jesus, please come, to them, to me, to this broken and ugly and devil-ruled world, and fix it, please. With some desperation." I banned you for a month, because you had violated this forum's one rule, be nice, four times. First an hour, then a day, then a week, then a month. Every banning was with warning, for explicitly stated reasons, which you read. We're not going to discuss this further in a thread about gay clergy, and derail another topic, for your bone to pick. Private message me if you have more to say about it. Don't post here. If you do post here, be aware I will delete it. I am leaving this up, lest you complain that I am trying to hide something. I'm not. But I will stop the thread from being completely derailed by your being upset. I don't want you to be upset. I want you to be able to post on the forum. Please continue doing so in a polite and kind, and brotherly manner. Concerning maranatha, accept that I don't agree about the definition, because I accept that you don't agree. waris, question: "How would die for me" James, answer: "I would even go to hell for you, if that were necessary, because I do not want you or anyone to go to eternal torment. Whether you believe me or not, I do love you. If you want the Lord to come to them then say Come Lord Jesus like in book of revelation. To say Maranatha is to say come Lord to judge them for their crimes. If you don’t agree then you are wrong, why don’t you agree with the definition? -edit- moderator edit by James Can you give proof or examples of how I violated the be nice rule 4 times? This is an analogy how you answer my questions. What does 2 plus 2 equal? Your answer: “yes”. Or “I think it’s 25 but if you don’t agree then there is nothing to talk about”. Or “I already told you” (when you clearly didn’t). That’s how you would answer.

"May God bless you and them and your family, with deliverance from every evil. Maranatha." is what I said. I feel like this conversation has gone to exorbitant lengths now, but I will answer you, again. I meant, Lord Jesus, please come, to them, to me, to this broken and ugly and devil-ruled world, and fix it, please. With some desperation. Even though there wasn't any hint of intended judgment on them, and I do not agree with you, that that's what that means, even if the Lord had to come and judge me first, I would surely still pray for Him to come. It is written, "it is appointed once for men to die, and then comes the judgment." and also “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life." and "We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death." And "Greater love has no man than this: But that he lay down his soul (psuche in Greek, not Zoe, which is life) for a friend." Would you do that for me, bro? Because I would for you. How would die for me when you won’t answer my questions and would ban me for a month for no reason? The definition I told you already, if you don’t agree it’s because you don’t know how to use the word. (I.e you are using that word wrong)

The word there in the greek is 3670 homologéō (from 3674 /homoú, "together" and 3004 /légō, "speak to a conclusion") – properly, to voice the same conclusion, i.e. agree ("confess"); to profess (confess) because in full agreement; to align with (endorse). From Strong's. The procedure I use now is when I hear something that could have been the Lord, I respond "Confess." If I hear a clear response "Jesus Christ is come in the flesh." then I accept that as the Lord. If I hear anything else, including silence, I don't. You can acknowledge without speaking verbally. If you asked a mute person to confess then are they able to? If you asked them if they acknowledge then they can answer without verbal usage. Confess involves verbally saying, while acknowledge doesn’t. Both are similar meaning. You can’t confess without acknowledging, but you can acknowledge without confessing verbally. There is a difference.

1 John 5:1 makes it sound like being born again isn't a high standard - "Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God..." 1 John 3:9 sounds like a much higher standard - "No one born of God makes a practice of sinning..." I think the parable of the sower is the correct way to fit these together - it's possible for a person to be born again, but then to wither. It even says "no one born of God continues to sin", and John says it in the strongest sense, because he also says "the one who sins (misses the mark!) is of the devil" (How many are racked with soul-searching grief and humiliation when they sin even once, unintentionally?) I agree with you on this: Salvation and being born again are simple. Proclaim with your lips. Believe in your heart. Done. But to know who Jesus is (not a false picture), proclaim Him as Lord, and believe God raised Him from the dead requires more than hearing a osas sermon, I think. But I'm not trying to box God. I long for the most merciful possible outcome. I just have been terrified by God's holiness, and burned by fire by Him, more than once. How can one sin if they are born again?

It makes sense to me. I want to see people who are being hurt by their own pride or self-deception be saved, be helped, have good given to them, and mercy. I would even like to see them change their ways, act humbly and persevere in hardship, and be worthy of great blessing and exaltation. That's what Jesus wants for all of us. How can they think they’re something special when they acknowledge that they’re not even a disciple?

Well, the aramaic means "Come, Lord". And that's how it's translated in 1 Cor 16:22. And that's what it means. And that's what I meant. If that's not enough for you, I don't know what else to tell you. God bless, brother. Its used in context for the Lord coming to judge. That’s what it means by “come Lord” (come to judge and take vengeance for their sins). What did you mean by wanting the Lord to come to them?

Those who read my post, who aren't disciples, but have deceived themselves, brother. It doesn’t make sense to pray for someone to not think of themselves as special in the kingdom of God when they are not even a disciple based on what you’ve assumed.

“If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha.” 1 Corinthians 16:22 MARANA'THA, n. The Lord comes or has come; a word used by the apostle Paul in expressing a curse. This word was used in anathematizing persons for great crimes; as much as to say, "may the Lord come quickly to take vengeance on thee for thy crimes." Dear brother, I don't know why you think that. Anathema means a thing devoted to destruction or accursed, yes. Maranatha means come, Lord, or as you say, the Lord is coming. It's related to the Aramaic word for Lord/Master, which is Mar. 17The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” That was my intention. Certainly not to curse anyone. Why I would think what? The word is used in context that’s not like the one you intend.

I have a follow-up question, for anyone in this thread or otherwise. Are you Jesus's disciple? Have you given up all you have? (Luke 14:33) Truly? Possessions, this life, your body, soul and spirit, offering yourself as a living sacrifice to God, as Romans 12:1 says? Do you have things you wouldn't do? Do you surrender 99% or 100%? Do you take up your cross daily and follow Jesus to be executed? Truly, and not just in pretense? Do you hate mother, father, sister, brethren, compared to how much you love Jesus? If yes to all those things, in truth, may God soon make you an overcomer, and give you the Bright Morning Star, the hope of glory, Christ in us. But if not, I pray, with gravity and sincerity, please God, do not let them deceive themselves that they are some special thing in the kingdom of God. Please let them know they have not even yet become a disciple, much less overcome the world. Please save us from ourselves and have mercy on us, God. Who are you praying for?

The fact that it's gotten so far as this is hard to take in. I was an atheist until I was 28. I was pro "gay rights." I always championed the underdog and hated what I saw as injustice. Homosexuality is caused by submitting to a demonic spirit. It's not a way people are born. It's a demonic spirit. One that has been seen. That can be cast out. Asking if God approves is like asking if God approves of a thief being in charge of the money bag. Yes, if that thief is supposed to be there, like Judas. No, if you mean does He approve of them as justified. No. They follow the man of lawlessness. A God who doesn't mean what He says or say what He means. But Yahweh has said, He will not take back His words. May God bless you and them and your family, with deliverance from every evil. Maranatha. “If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha.” 1 Corinthians 16:22 MARANA'THA, n. The Lord comes or has come; a word used by the apostle Paul in expressing a curse. No I was talking to James to get more specific details of what was said. Like what the voice specifically said or the conversation of what James said before and after he asked or the voice spoke. Like the context. Yeah, sure. The question I asked was "Do you confess Jesus Christ is come in the flesh?" I heard demons answer "Yesss" or "<angrily> Yes!" In the same voice as I had previously heard python or a critical spirit or jezebel or whatever answer. Bear in mind, this is a testimony about the past, years ago. But the test says, any spirit, not of God, cannot confess "Jesus Christ is come in the flesh." I have never heard an evil spirit say that, because God prevents them. I was also wondering what they told you that made you ask in the first place. Edit: Also I think you asked the wrong question. “Acknowledge” is slightly different from “confess”, so if you asked if they confess they can lie and say yes I suppose since confessing actually involves speaking Jesus Christ came in the flesh as opposed to acknowledging. They can’t acknowledge it and they can’t confess it. So try to replace confess with acknowledge and if still unsure then tell them to confess it. “Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.” 1 John 2:23

I don't remember the question, but I try the 1st John 4 test. No I was talking to James to get more specific details of what was said. Like what the voice specifically said or the conversation of what James said before and after he asked or the voice spoke. Like the context.
